NEW YORK, March 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Harwood Feffer LLP (www.hfesq.com) is investigating potential claims against the board of directors of Sempra Energy ("Sempra" or the "Company") (NYSE: SRE), concerning whether the board has breached its fiduciary duties to shareholders.
Southern California Gas Company ("SoCalGas") is a subsidiary of Sempra. In October 2015, SoCalGas reported a natural gas leak from a well it operated in a residential area of Los Angeles. Residents of the neighborhood reported headaches, nausea, and other symptoms and had to be relocated while SoCalGas attempted to close the well.
On February 2, 2016, the California Attorney General filed an action against SoCalGas alleging violations of California's health and safety laws in connection with the gas leak. The same day, prosecutors in Los Angeles County filed criminal charges against SoCalGas for its failure to report the gas leak promptly after it was discovered.
Our investigation concerns whether the Company board of directors has breached its fiduciary duties to shareholders, grossly mismanaged the Company, and/or committed abuses of control in connection with the foregoing.
