Harwood Feffer LLP Announces Investigation of Dietary Supplements Containing BMPEA

Apr 9, 2015

NEW YORK, April 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Harwood Feffer LLP (www.hfesq.com) is investigating whether certain dietary supplements marketed as weight-loss and workout aids contain a potentially dangerous undisclosed ingredient: methylphenylethylamine ("BMPEA"), an isomer of amphetamine whose effect on humans has not been studied.

Harwood Feffer LLP.

In December 2014, the Canadian government issued the following public health alert regarding BMPEA: "Amphetamine stimulants can increase blood pressure, heart rate and body temperature; lead to serious cardiovascular complications (including stroke) at high doses; suppress sleep and appetite, and be addictive."

According a study published on April 7, 2015 in the journal "Drug Testing and Analysis," of 21 supplements labelled as containing Acacia rigidula, eleven contained BMPEA.  Of these, only three of the supplements indicated that BMPEA was an ingredient on their labels, and none disclosed the amount of BMPEA in each pill. In recent years, tainted dietary supplements have been associated with kidney failure, hepatitis, and other serious health problems.

Supplements identified in recent media reports as containing BMPEA include: "JetFuel Superburn" and "JetFuel T-300" manufactured by GAT Supplements; "Dexaprine XR" manufactured by iForce Nutrition; "MX-LS7" manufactured by iSatori, Inc.; "Aro Black Series Burn" manufactured by Vitacost.com, Inc., and; the following supplements manufactured by HiTech Pharmacal Co., Inc.: "Black Widow," "Fastin-XR," "Lipodrene Hardcore," "Lipodrene Xtreme," "Stimerex-ES," and "Yellow Scorpion."

These supplements are available for purchase widely, including at Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Target, Walgreens; and Walmart.

If you or someone you know purchased any of these dietary supplements, or any other supplement containing Acacia rigidula and wish to discuss this matter with us, or have any questions concerning your rights and interests with regard to this matter, please contact:
