On April 2, 2015, The New York Times published an article reporting that the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs has served subpoenas on Berkeley College in connection with potentially abusive recruiting practices, predatory student lending, and dishonest marketing.  According to the article, Berkeley College is being investigated because it is one of a handful of for-profit schools that have particularly high rates of student loan default and students have complained about recruitment practices.
